Since the Day Karl Fazer Opened Our Doors
In 1891, a young Karl Fazer opened a small Russian and French confectionery shop on Kluuvikatu. Helsinki was a quieter city then — more formal, more measured — but the pull of a beautifully made cup of coffee and a slice of layered cake was just as irresistible.
"A place where time moves a little slower, and coffee always tastes exactly as it should."
More than 130 years later, we're still here. The café's art nouveau interior — the painted ceilings, original wooden panelling, the quiet clink of porcelain on marble — remains one of Helsinki's most treasured rooms. We've weathered two world wars, a pandemic, and every passing trend in coffee.
What hasn't changed is the commitment Karl built into every recipe: the finest ingredients, prepared with care, served with Finnish warmth. We still bake our pastries each morning. Our coffee blend is still roasted to our own specification. And the korvapuusti — the great Finnish cinnamon bun — is still the best in the city.
